Dhathryadi ghrita is one said in Sahasrayoga and is a formulation with a cold potency. It readily checks bleeding conditions like menorrhagia. It is used to treat vitiated pitta conditions.

INDICATIONS of Dhathryadi Ghrutham

Dhathryadi ghrita is indicated in,

  • Asrugdhara (dysfunctional uterine bleeding and menorrhagia)
  • Pittaja pandu roga (anaemia)
  • Gulma (pitta associated)
  • Used to treat infertility
  • Gouty arthritis
  • Pitta vitiated conditions of intoxication, fainting
  • Psychiatric diseases

METHOD OF PREPARATION

The ghee is prepared according to the proportion.

Kalaka(paste of drugs):ghee: juice of drugs as 1/8:1:4

The juices of drugs like dhatri, vidari. Ikshu, satavari, koosmanda were taken in a quantity four times the ghee. All the paste drugs were taken forming the one-eighth portion of ghee. When the pate of drug separated from ghee (mridu paka) the milk is added to the ghee and preparation was continued till the kalka shaped into a wick. The ghee is filtered and collected.

 KoosmandaBalances vata pitta dosha and special effect on intelligence. It cures diabetes, dysuria, calculi, bleeding disorders, anorexia, and tiredness. It improves virility and strength.
 MridwekaIt balances vata pitta dosha and acts as a natural coolant. It facilitates easy bowel movements and is good for eyes. It relieves vomiting, gout, respiratory diseases, burning sensation, dryness, emaciation, etc.
 YashtiRelieves vitiated vata pitta dosha. It improves voice, virility, checks bleeding disorders, vomiting, burning sensation, thirst, bleeding, etc.
 ChandanaBalance kapha and pitta dosha. It detoxifies blood and used in bleeding disorders, acts as aphrodisiac, anti-toxic, coolant and relieves thirst, tiredness, fatigue, etc.

The drugs have cold potency and are able to cure vitiated vata and pitta dosha. Since have cold potency it is used effectively in managing conditions of vitiated pitta dosha and in bleeding disorders. It can also be used in treatment of infertility.

DOSAGE:

5 to 10 ml is given with suitable adjuvent according to the disease.

EXERCISE AND YOGA

Suitable yoga and exercise can be adopted. In pitta vitiated conditions Chandranadi pranayama, seetali pranayama are good choice.            

PATHYA AHARAS AND VIHARAS

Usually this formulation is given in vitiation of pitta dosha. So hot, spicy and strong foods, exposure to heat, sun light, etc. is to avoided. Also, should restrict intake of alcohol, hot beverages, smoking, etc.

SIDE EFFECTS

No side effects are noticed.
