PATHOPHYSIOLOGY OF VULVODYNIA

The pathophysiology of vulvodynia is dependent on the causative factor. The vulvodynia due to infections may also transmit through sexual intercourse. Lymphocytic and neutrophilic inflammatory reactions are taking place. Falling in the level of hormones is the root cause of vulvodynia.

Vulvodynia is considered an agantuja vyadhi, when it is caused by an infection etc. When the microorganism enters the body the doshas are vitiated, which further vitiates the rakta, mamsa dhatus and produces the symptoms. It can be also called “yoni sula”, here excess vitiation of vata dosha occur in the vulva.

  • Nadi Shuddi Pranayama    – gets relief from irritations associated with vulvodynia and provide overall immunity

The patient needs to be seated in a meditative posture with the head and spine erect, and the body relaxed. The patient has to close one nostril (e.g. left nostril if using the right hand and vice versa) with the thumb and exhale completely through the other nostril. Again, he will have to breathe in deeply through the other nostril while the opposite nostril is still closed with the thumb.
