SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF UNDESCENDED TESTICLE

  • Absence of testicle in the scrotum
  • Associated with enlarged lymph nodes in the groin region

CAUSES OF UNDESCENDED TESTICLE

  • The exact cause is not known

The probable factors are;

  • Hormone changes in the baby
  • Premature birth
  • Maternal health
  • Genetic factors
  • Low birth weight
  • Family history
  • Problems in growth and development of the baby

PATHOPHYSIOLOGY OF UNDESCENDED TESTICLE

During fetal development, the testicle is formed in the abdomen and gradually descends into the scrotum through the inguinal canal. Due to the causative factors, the testicle fails to move into the scrotum.

DIAGNOSIS OF UNDESCENDED TESTICLE

  • History taking
  • Physical examinations
  • Laparoscopy
  • Hormone level analysis
  • Ultrasound scanning

TREATMENTS OF UNDESCENDED TESTICLE

  • Surgery – orchiopexy
  • Hormone treatment – injection of  human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG)

PROGNOSIS OF UNDESCENDED TESTICLE

It can be easily relocated by surgery 

COMPLICATIONS OF UNDESCENDED TESTICLE

  • Testicular cancer
  • Poor quality sperms
  • Low sperm count
  • Inguinal hernia

UNDESCENDED TESTICLE AND AYURVEDA

According to Ayurveda, the descent of testes occurs as a result of the normal functioning of the Apana vayu. Undescended testicle occurs when apana vayu vitiation occurs during fetal development.

  • Excess consumption of dry and  ununctuous food by mother during pregnancy
  • Apana Vata dosha vitiation
  • Dushti in sukra vaha srothas

Due to the causative factors, apana vata dosha becomes vitiated and its abnormal functions along with sukravaha srotho dushti causes undescended testicle.

  • Nadi Shuddi Pranayam   

The patient needs to be seated in a meditative posture with the head and spine erect, and the body relaxed. The patient has to close one nostril (e.g. left nostril if using the right hand and vice versa) with the thumb and exhale completely through the other nostril. Again, he will have to breathe in deeply through the other nostril while the opposite nostril is still closed with the thumb.
