INTRODUCTION
A coronavirus is a group of viruses, which can cause a wide variety of clinical manifestations in human beings and animals. The signs and symptoms may vary from the mild common cold to severe acute diseases like MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) and SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Diseases).
COVID 19 ORIGIN
COVID 19 (The Corona Virus Disease 2019) is caused by a recently discovered viral mutant of the Coronal virus. It came to global attention after its outbreak in Wuhan, China in December 2019. The WHO (The World Health Organization) has declared COVID 19 as a pandemic as it has affected many nations worldwide.
COVID 19 TRANSMISSION
The primary transmission of the disease is from an infected person to another person. There is no medical evidence to date for the zoonotic ( from animals to humans)transmission of COVID 19. The spread of the disease from the infected person takes place through small droplets from the nose or mouth, which are expelled when an individual with COVID-19 coughs, sneezes or speaks. These droplets will be relatively heavy to a high concentration of COVID 19 virus. These droplets cannot reach l far being relatively heavy and quickly sink to the ground. People will be infected with COVID-19 if they breathe in these droplets from an infected person. These droplets can also land on objects and surfaces around the person such as tables, doorknobs, and handrails. People can become infected by touching these infected objects or surfaces and then touching their eyes, nose or mouth
The WHO and nation-wide agencies are assessing ongoing research to find out the transmissions of CVID 19 as very rare cases were reported without a primary contact with an infected person. Some persons with no symptoms were also found to transmit the disease. The frequency of such occurrences is not yet known and ongoing research is conducted for finding it out.
COVID 19 CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS AND DIAGNOSIS:
The WHO and nation-wide agencies are assessing ongoing research to find out the transmissions of CVID 19 as very rare cases were reported without a primary contact with an infected person. Some persons with no symptoms were also found to transmit the disease. The frequency of such occurrences is not yet known and ongoing research is conducted for finding it out.
COVID 19 CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS AND DIAGNOSIS:
Common symptoms are:
• Fever
• Dry cough and
• Tiredness.
Other symptoms that are less common and should affect some patients include:
Aches and pains
Nasal congestion
Headache
Conjunctivitis
Sore throat
Diarrhea
Loss of taste or smell
Rash on skin
Discoloration of fingers or toes.
These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some infected people have shown only very mild symptoms.
A few cases across the world were reported with severe gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea but those were so rare.
COVID 19 DIAGNOSIS
Clinical diagnosis of COVID-19 is mainly based on epidemiological history, clinical manifestations, and some auxiliary examinations, such as nucleic acid detection, CT scan, immune identification technology (Point-of-care Testing (POCT) of IgM/IgG, Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA)) and blood culture. (Reference: Molecular immune pathogenesis and diagnosis of COVID-19, Journal of Pharmaceutical Analysis)
COVID 19: MANAGEMENT PROTOCOL
No medicines have been shown to prevent or cure the disease. Some western medicines, Alternative system of Medicines like Ayurveda, or home remedies have provided comfort and alleviated symptoms of mild COVID-19.
There are ongoing clinical trials of both western and traditional medicines. The WHO and other national agencies ‘ efforts to develop vaccines and medicines to prevent and treat COVID-19 conduct ongoing research.
COVID-19 EFFECTIVE PREVENTION TECHNIQUES
The most effective ways for protection from COVID-19 are to:
- Clean hands thoroughly with soap and water after exposure to a public place or being exposed to people gatherings.
- Avoid touching the eyes, mouth, and nose.
- Cover the mouth while coughing with the bend of elbow or tissue. If a tissue is used, discard it immediately and wash the hands.
- Cover the nose while sneezing with the bend of elbow or tissue; discard the used tissue immediately and wash the hands.
- Maintain a minimum distance of at least 1 meter from others.
COVID 19 VACCINE
Several vaccine has been discovered for the treatment of COVD 19. Usually the clinical symptoms of a viral disease can be successfully managed by symptomatic treatments. If a subsequent bacterial infection occurs, specific antibiotics can be used.
COVID 19 & AYURVEDA
Undoubtedly all Ayurveda scholars know that Ayurveda could be very effective in the prevention of COVID 19 infection. Because Ayurveda is a science that is based on the protection of the health of a healthy individual and the disease cure if an individual has contacted or been affected by the disease.
The prevention or protection aspect of science deals with the daily routine including self-hygiene, seasonal routines which elaborates numerous regimes and procedures which help to enhance the immune system of the body.
On a close overview, we can make it out and strongly correlate the ways of Ayurveda and Allopathic systems of medicines, in reinforcing the self-hygiene and immunity-boosting of an individual.
Since no vaccine or a specific treatment protocol has been invented till date for COVID 19, like most of the viral diseases, even the affected cases with mild symptoms are advised to maintain proper self-hygiene by washing hands with soap and water and use Vitamin supplements and a healthy diet to enhance the immunity of the individual.
According to Ayurveda scholars, self-hygiene includes brushing teeth, baths and exercise should be a daily practice and they have explained the details on how it should be done except the use of and water as most Ayurveda texts have been written before the invention of soap. But specific alternative herbs for soap have been suggested to use daily to clean the body.
Ayurveda describes plenty of drugs to modulate the immune system:
- Amalaki or amla (Emblica Officinalis)
- Guduchi (Tinospora Cordifolia)
- Neem (Azadirachta Indica)
- Ashwagandha ( Withania Somnifera)
- Turmeric( Curcuma Longa)
- Garlic( Allium Sativum) ( contains a chemical compound called ajoene which stops spreading of the virus)
- Tulsi (basil) are some of the Ayurvedic herbs that help build immunity and prevent the infection,
Some Ayurveda medicine which can be used to modulate the immune system:
- Indukantham Qwath.
- Drakshadi Qwath
- Vilwadi Gulika
- Soorya Prabha Gulika
- Samshamani Vati
- Sanjeevani Vati
- Tribhuvanakirti Ras
- Haridrakhand
- Vyoshadi Vatakam
- Dadimashtak Churna
- Vaiswanara Churna
- Agasthya Rasayana
- Chyawanprash with milk
- Brahma Rasayanam
- Triphala churna with honey
- Shilajit with honey
Ayurveda procedure which helps to boost the immunity of respiratory system:

Abstract
Ayurveda is an herbal treatment that is practiced in various parts of the world from centuries ago. It is derived from the Sanskrit ‘Ayu’ which means life and ‘Veda’ means knowledge. Infectious diseases are spreading very speedily all over the world. To catch all organisms all the time (either they are recently evolved or already present) and to treat them is not possible. Therefore prevention is the right way against these diseases. Traditional health care systems like Ayurveda are the right choice to treat infectious diseases. In traditional methods of curing infectious diseases like Chickenpox, Malaria, Measles, mumps, jaundice and AIDS herbal preparations and plant and leaves extract, the paste of leaves of Neem and Turmeric, Ginger, Garlic and other medicinal plants are used. This treatment is very helpful in developing countries where no or very few sources are present. This treatment is not more expensive and people in backward areas avail it easily.
