Benefits of Varavisaladi kashayam
The formulation of Varavisaladi kashayam is explained as a ghrita yoga in Ashtangahrudaya in the name Kallyanakam, but it is used as a kashayam more often. In today’s world people are affected by many types of derangement in fat metabolism; may it be Hyperlipidemia or obesity or hypercholesteremia or atherosclerosis or hypertension. Most of these, associated with weak digestion, too. In such people, the ghee preparation may worsen the condition rather than curing it. But the same herbs in a water-soluble form in the decoction can act as the cure for many such derangements, even for hypercholesterolemia.
It is useful in many psychiatric disorders like anxiety disorder, mania, depression, bipolar disorder etc. It is beneficial even in complete psychotic patients with aggression.
It is used to treat asthma, epilepsy, anaemia, skin diseases, poisoning, emaciation and malabsorption, diseases of urinary system, diabetes, fever etc.
It is beneficial to nullify the effect of slow poisoning and food poisoning. It is used in the treatment of azoospermia, oligospermia etc. It is beneficial in menstrual disorders too.
It is especially beneficial in delusions. In mental retardation, developmental disorders, learning disability, ADHD, and speech disorders, it is found effective. Those who want to boost their memory, can take this medicine. It gives strength, good lifespan, beauty, good fortune and nourishment to the person.
It improves the digestive fire. It is useful in indigestion, low appetite, fatigue and laziness. This combination is called as “KALLYANAKAM” as it gives all good fortune to the person who takes it. Vara (Triphala) -a group of fruits of 3 drugs namely,

It is one of the main drugs in Ayurveda, one of the Rasayana and a member of an important group, Triphala. It is used in a wide variety of diseases as it possesses anti-bacterial anti-fungal anti-viral anti-diabetic anti-mutagenic anti-oxidant anti-ulcer and wound-healing properties.
Beleric myrobalan, Bahera | Aksha | Terminalia bellirica (GAERTN.) ROXB. |
A very good healer of gastric diseases, common cold, leukoderma and also cures digestive disorders. It has laxative and anti-inflammatory actions. It is one of the important ingredients in triphala, an Ayurvedic formulation. Other properties for which it is used are as health tonic and as rejuvenator. It is used in treatment of piles also.

Amla exhibits strong antioxidant activity. Sweet and sour fruits are easy to digest, carminative, and improve digestion & taste. Sour fruits increase Pitta slightly, help in the cure of amavata and kaphadosha.

It is a strong purgative. It has anthelmintic, diuretic and hepato-protective properties. It is used to treat pain, enlarged spleen, inflammations, jaundice, leukoderma, abdominal tumours, and cancer.

It has anti-oxidants and is used to treat skin diseases and herpes. It is also used in vomiting, nausea and gastritis.
Red sandalwood | Raktachandana | Pterocarpus santalinus L. |
It has anti-inflammatory, anti-pyretic, anthelmintic, aphrodisiac, anti-hyperglycaemic and diaphoretic properties. It is used in the treatment of fever, haemorrhage and dysentery.
Details of the manufacturing
As already discussed, Varavisaladi kashayam has 28 ingredients in equal parts.
All the ingredients should be washed well and dried up in shade.
Take all the ingredients in crushed form in an earthen pot. Now add 16 times clean water into it. Make it boil and then cook in the open vessel with low fire. Reduce the quantity into one by eighth of the initial quantity. Make sure to mix it in between with a ladle. Also, the fire should be kept low to make sure that all the active ingredients in the herbs needed are absorbed well into the water. Once the quantity is reduced to one by eighth of the initial amount of water, remove the vessel from the fire. Squeeze and drain through a clean white cloth. Collect the decoction in a clean vessel and discard the solid waste. Drink the mild warm decoction.
Dosha Dooshya Predominance with roga margas.
Varavisaladi kashayam is Kapha-Pittahara and srotosodhana
It acts on aabhyantara, madhyama and bahya rogamargas
Dosage and Usage of Varavisaladi kashayam
Dosage: two Pala.
Usage:
Kashayam is advised to take in empty stomach, once the ingested food is digested well and aahaararasa is formed well.
Usage of kashayam with prescribed prakshepadravyas according to the condition of disease and the patient gives the best results mostly.
Exercises and Yoga.
As Varavisaladi kashayam targets mainly removing obstructions in channels, regular stretching and mild cardio exercises are advised. Also, specific yogacharya including suryanamaskara, meditation, naadisuddhi pranayama, bhujangaasana, pavanamuktasana is recommended.
Regular exercise helps improve bioavailability of the medicine and food ingested and leads to positive health.
Yoga can maintain harmony within the body and with the surrounding system.
